Regarding the Google Play Store, the version of the Play Store itself is updated automatically by Google in the background, so there is usually no need to update it manually. You can, however, check for system and app updates:

Go to Settings → About → System Update and install any available firmware updates.
Open Google Play Store → Manage apps & device → Update all to update your installed apps.

Many Android TV boxes also allow you to install compatible APK files from trusted sources if an app is not available in Google Play.
